Ex-lib with marks, stamps and attachments. Binding is tight. There is slight wear to the edges of the boards. A small (one-half inch) piece is missing from the inside of the front flap of the dust jacket. Pages are crisp, clean and uncreased. All illustrations are present and intact. A history of the development of the Scottish dress, from the earliest times, which shows that the tartan (as opposed to the kilt) originated in the Lowlands and was worn there from a much earlier period that has been generally realized, and was worn by the poorest districts. Only later did patriotism and Victorian snobbery combine to build up restrictions on the usage and adoption of the Scottish dress.
